Patch Types
The hydrogel patch is a drug-in-adhesive patch with the adhesive designed for the specific compound the patch carries. The patch base is a water-soluble polymer and water. Hydrogel patches are well suited for treating inflamed areas as they can provide a cooling effect on the application surface.
Tapes (anhydrous patches) contain a base consisting of a lipophilic polymer. With this type, there are various lipophilic ingredients that can be formulated. Tapes have increased flexibility and adhesiveness but lack the cooling benefits of hydrogel patches.
